MCT 5 Cross Cut Adhesion Tester

The Lumetron MCT 5 circular blade cross cut tester is designed to test the adhesion and brittleness of dry coats of paint on their substrate by means of a set of six circular blades and two guide blades. Testing is as per Test Method ASTM D3359

The Lumetron MCT 5 circular blade cross cut tester is designed to test the adhesion and brittleness of dry coats of paint on their substrate by means of a set of six circular blades and two guide blades.

There are three sets of circular blades in each wheel. If one circular blade or area becomes worn or nicked, the wheel is simply turned over and the second set of circular blades is put to use. A hex allen key is provided for this adjustment. A total of six cutting edges is thus possible. Two types of circular blades, each having different blade spacings are available: 1.0 mm blade spacings and 2.0 mm blade spacings.

When using the circular blades, with the knife edges downward, the tool is pulled over the painted surface being tested; scratching the coating to the bottom. A second crosswise cut at an angle of 90 degrees will produce a ruled area comprising 25 squares. These are evaluated for appearance or behavior of the coat of paint after some vigorous strokes with the stiff brush provided with the kit. The condition of the substrate (sand-blasted, primed, degreased, pickled etc.) is also visually noted and reported.

The complete kit includes the Circular Blade Cross Cut Tester with handle and six position blades, Flaking Brush, Illuminated Magnifier with batteries, roll of adhesion test tape, hex allen key, all contained within a foam linde wooden carry case.
